Change is a natural and constant part of life. Change happens on the individual level and the communal level. Change is something we create and something that happens to us.

The following is a simple prayer I’ve revisited in times of change. Whether undergoing life circumstance, decisions, societal tragedy or something else that involves change, these words can be re-centering.
It is directed to the God that Jesus called Father. Adapt it as you see fit. Meditate on it. Let it become part of your life rhythm when facing change.
Today I confess that your work is impossible and probable. I stand in this paradox, because I know the alternative to being present with you; and so I remain with you.
You tear down, and root up, and destroy all that you are finished with. And you inspire, imagine, shape and invite new things.
I confess I am conflicted, for I have cherished all that you are now ending, and I lean toward fearing that into which you will breathe life.
Tear down my reluctance, root up my injustice, destroy my pride.
And in so doing inspire newness, imagine the impossible, shape it into the probable, and invite me and others to journey with you in this undiscovered country.
We often don’t get to choose what conditions are involved in a period of change. But we do get to choose our mental posture while going through the change.
May the changes we all face bring something new, something undiscovered, something we might call “impossible” into our reality.
